Safe Environment

Safe Environment Compliance
The Archdiocese of Atlanta requires all clergy, employees, and volunteers who work with children, youth, or vulnerable individuals to participate in the Safe Environment program. This ensures the safety and well-being of those entrusted to our care.
What You Need to Know
- VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children is a nationally recognized training program used by dioceses across the United States.
- Completion requires passing a background screening and attending a 3-hour VIRTUS training session.
- Training teaches signs of abuse, prevention steps, and Archdiocesan reporting procedures.
Who Must Attend
- All clergy, employees, and volunteers who interact with children or vulnerable adults.
- Training must be completed
before beginning work or within
60 days for employees not working directly with children.
Maintaining Compliance
- Background screening and VIRTUS training are renewed every five years.
- Participants receive monthly email bulletins for ongoing education and will be notified when it’s time to renew.
VIRTUS is part of our parish commitment to creating a culture of safety, vigilance, and care for all children, youth, and vulnerable adults.
