St. James Celebrates the Ordination of Deacon Scott Major

Our parish family joyfully celebrated the ordination of Scott Major to the Permanent Diaconate on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Holy Vietnamese Martyrs Church in Norcross, GA. This sacred Mass of Ordination, presided over by Auxiliary Bishop Bernard E. Shlesinger, III, was part of the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s annual celebration of men called to permanent diaconal ministry and was livestreamed for the broader Catholic community to join in prayer and thanksgiving.

Deacons serve the Church through ministries of the Word, charity, and the liturgy, assisting bishops and priests while bringing Christ’s presence to the faithful through preaching, service, and sacramental outreach.



We give thanks to God for Deacon Scott’s generous response to this vocation, for his love of Christ and His Church, and for his willingness to serve with humility and joy. We also extend our gratitude to his wife, Sandy, whose steadfast support and faith have been vital throughout his formation. Please continue to keep Deacon Scott and his family in your prayers as he begins this new chapter of ministry among us.
