Baptism

Born with a fallen human nature and tainted by original sin, children also have need of the new birth in Baptism to be freed from the power of darkness and brought into the realm of the freedom of the children of God, to which all men are called.  (CCC 1250)

Baptism is the beginning of the Christian life and the gateway to all the other Sacraments. Through the outpouring of water and the Holy Spirit, we are freed from sin, reborn as children of God, and incorporated into the Church. This Sacrament marks us with an indelible spiritual character and establishes our identity as sons and daughters of the Father. Baptism is not only a moment of welcome into the parish family, but the foundation of a lifelong journey of faith, grace, and discipleship.

Baptism Preparation Online instruction

We are using the Belonging online course through Ascension Press for our baptismal preparation course. To access the Belonging Certification Course, please use the button below.

Once you have completed the course, you will be sent a certificate. Please forward that certificate to Amy Renje, and she will reach out to you to arrange the date and time of your child’s Baptism.

Please Note:

  • Parents must be members of St. James for at least 3 months or have their pastor’s permission to have their child baptized at St. James.
  • Parents and Goparents must attend our pre-baptism class. Click here for our Baptism Preparation Packet.
  • You will need to complete the online registration forms if you haven’t already. You can find that using the button below.
  • It is customary to offer the priest or deacon a stipend for performing the Baptism. ($50 is the usual amount given.)
  • Photos and videos of the Baptism are welcome as long as the Sacramental Rite is not interrupted in any way.
